Flipkart donates ventilators to Maharashtra government amidst the rising COVID-19 cases

Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray thanked Flipkart's CEO and other members for the same. He stated that these ventilators would definitely help the patients in need of the treatment.

The state of Maharashtra is witnessing another severe wave of the coronavirus (COVID-19) outbreak, and with increasing number of cases, the government is facing a shortage of health facilities across many disticts in the state. Observing the same, renowned e-commerce portal, Flipkart, along with Give India, has decided to provide a total of 28 ventilators to the state health department

Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray thanked Flipkart's CEO Kalyan Krishnamurthy and Rajneesh Kumar for providing the same and also expressed confidence that these ventilators would definitely help the patients in need of the treatmentHe handed over a letter of thanks to Dippy Vankani, Director, Flipkart.

Present during the same were Chief Secretary Sitaram Kunte, Principal Secretary of Public Health Department Pradip Vyas among others.

Meanwhile, the CM has mentioned that if the number of coronavirus cases do not reduce and if the condition continues to deteriorate, the state government might have to impose a lockdown. Officials have time and again mentioned that people have been behaving carelessly by not following the rules, basis which they have to decide on tightening the restrictions. Announcements have been made to follow the rules and avoid the lockdown. 

State health minister, Rajesh Tope, shared this information and warned the citizens stating that if anyone is found without a mask, then they would be fined by the police and government officials. Strict action will be taken against people flouting the rules.

On the other hand, COVID-19 beds are being made available everywhere in the state. The administration has been instructed to increase the number of beds and improve the services. This decision was taken after the government was informed that beds are not being made available for critical patients at certain hospitals. A few days back, patients and relatives formed a queue outside Dombivli's Shastri Nagar Hospital whereby beds were not available for ones with the infection. It was reported that this led to quarrel among the hospital staff and the members present there for the same.

Several meetings being held under the chairmanship of Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray to discuss the lockdown in Maharashtra. The COVID-19 task force has informed the CM that a lockdown would be needed to curb the cases in the state, and officials are considering the same with minimum economic impact. Currently, the government has imposed a night curfew across Maharashtra whereby all public activities have been prohibited post 8pm until 7am. Parks, malls, cinema halls, restaurants, and bars have been asked to remain closed. Local trains and essential services function uninterrupted.
