These certificates issued by the Government of India are shared on the CoWin website for one's reference, however, sharing them on social media is not advised. Offering more clarity, the Ministry of Home Affairs has asked citizens to be careful with the same, as sharing the certificate could lead to their private data being leaked in public.

Issuing an alert, officials form the Home Ministry stated that the COVID-19 vaccination certificate contains other important information such as name, age, gender and details about the next dose of vaccine. This information can be useful for criminals.

The Minstry took to the official Twitter account to warn the citizens about the crime which has been reported several times now. A poster was shared on 'Cyber Dost' which informed citizens about the cyber fraud, which states that one can get access to the personal information after scanning the QR code on the certificate, and hence sharing the same would be risky. With this information, the accused can call the person and collect more information from them.
