As there is a rapid increase in coronavirus cases in the city, the demand for beds in private and civic-run hospitals is also growing. Therefore, the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) has decided to convert Jaslok Hospital, Pedder Road in South Mumbai, into COVID care hospital and fully dedicate to the COVID-19 patients only temporarily.

No patients other than those infected with COVID-19 will be admitted to this hospital. In addition to the existing COVID patients, all will also be shifted to other hospitals.

The shifting will be completed by Saturday morning, April 17. During the beginning of the pandemic, last year, Jaslok Hospital took good care of the coronavirus affected patients. Hence, at the time of the second wave, the Municipal Corporation has decided to give the hospital to convert into a COVID care hospital.

This will increase the number of beds for patients by 250. It includes 40 beds in the intensive care unit.

In this regard, the civic body has given instructions to the management of Jaslok Hospital.

Meanwhile, Seven Hills Hospital has also been upgraded to 30 intensive care units, while the Corona Grand Center at Nesco in Goregaon will have 1,500 more beds in the next seven days. The municipal administration has also said that all these beds will have oxygen facility.

  • Other patients, who are in urgent need of medical treatment, should be shifted to a nearby hospital within the next 48 hours.
  • Any other patient's planned surgery should be postponed.
