The Maharashtra government has permitted the extension of the time period for the citizens to avail free treatment for the novel coronavirus, and other ailments, till October 31.

The citizens can avail the treatment under the Mahatma Jyotiba Phule Jan Arogya Yojana (MJPJAY). Irrespective of one’s financial holdings, every citizen of Maharashtra is eligible to avail treatment under MJPJAY.

Earlier, the health activists in the state had urged the government to extend the scheme as many people suffered huge losses in their financial lives as a result of the pandemic, along with the subsequent lockdown. This led to Rajesh Tope, announcing back in May that all citizens of the state would be covered under the health scheme MJPJAY.

Meanwhile, the BMC a week back had revised its guidelines on home isolation along the lines of the Centre's new guidelines. According to the fresh guidelines, devised to bring down the city's fatality rate, institutional isolation has been made mandatory for all patients suffering from the coronavirus over 50 years. Institutional quarantine has now also been made compulsory for all COVID-19 patients with comorbidities.

On the other hand, Maharashtra, in the last 24 hours, has clocked 16,408 cases of the coronavirus to reach the COVID-19 tally of 7,80,689 in the state. The recovery rate in the state now stands at 72.04 per cent, close to the national average of 76.61 per cent.
