Maharashtra, on Monday, April 26, 2021, recorded the highest number of coronavirus vaccinations ever given. As per reports, more than 5 lakh people were vaccinated in till 6 pm and the total count was expected to rise by the end of the day. Earlier, the state recorded 4.62 lakh as the highest number, national record reported on April 3, 2021.

On achieving the new record, Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray and Health Minister Rajesh Tope have congratulated the state for crossing the 5 lakh mark in vaccination.

Maharashtra has consistently been at the forefront of vaccination in the country. So far, over 1.43 crore citizens have been vaccinated and after the addition of Monday's figures, the overall tally would cross 1.48 crore mark.

Adding more, Principal Secretary of the Health Department, Dr. Pradip Vyas said that after Tuesday's drive, Maharashtra's vaccination figure will cross 1.5 crore mark. Currently, the state is ahead of Gujarat, Rajasthan and Uttar Pradesh, which has the highest number of 6,155 immunization centers in the state, which includes 5,347 government and 808 private centers.

The state has already been at the forefront of the drive and keeping the increasing COVID-19 cases in mind,  the state aims to double the number of centres and the process to accelerate the vaccination drive is underway. Once this is accelerated as planned, the target of vaccinating over 8 lakh people a day in the state will be achieved soon, said Health Minister Rajesh Tope.

Earlier, the state had reached its peak by vaccinating more than 3 lakh people on the first day (April 1) of vaccination, where citizens above 45 years of age were given the vaccine.
