Maharashtra’s pediatric task force has recommended that priority be accorded to children with obesity, juvenile diabetes, malnutrition and other medical issues when it comes to COVID-19 vaccination, highlighted a report by the Times of India. This was part of the recommendations it recently submitted to the state government.

Revered child specialists constitute the task force who elucidated that inoculation wasn’t compulsory for attendance in schools. They also requested parents to send their children to school and not refrain from the same citing vaccination.

If reports are to be believed, ZyCoV-D and Covaxin that are meant for those in the age bracket of 2-18 are likely to be initiated through India’s coronavirus vaccination drive by the end of the year.

The ZyCoV-D is a three-dose, needle-free vaccine made by Zydus Cadila, based in Ahmedabad. It was the first in India to attain Emergency Use Authorization (EUA) for children 12 and above. On the other hand, Covaxin too attained the EUA for those between 2-18. It is anticipated that the Central government will soon proclaim guidelines on inoculating high-risk children.

On the other hand, on Tuesday, November 9, Maharashtra attained the commendable feat of crossing the 100mn COVID-19 vaccination mark. It is now the second state in India to attain this accomplishment.
