The Urban Development Department, on Monday, June 21, 2021, sanctioned a plot of land to set up a cancer hospital in Thane, and as per reports, the same has been approved at a nominal cost for a period of 30 years. Once constructed, this well-equipped cancer hospital will be beneficial for the citizens living in Thane and surrounding areas.

Officials aim to offer quality and affordable treatment for cancer at the proposed hospital. The approved allotment of land at a nominal rate has been facilitated through Thane Municipal Corporation, Tata Memorial Center and Jito Educational and Medical Trust. An MoU will be signed soon under the leadership of Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray.

The decision to set up a cancer hospital was taken by the municipality after observing an increasing number of cancer patients and understanding the concerns regarding expensive treatment and the stress on the Tata Cancer Hospital in Mumbai. Basis this, the district's Guardian Minister Eknath Shinde, in 2019, proposed a well-equipped cancer hospital with state-of-the-art treatment facilities, which the Thane Municipal Corporation approved post discussion. The hospital will be set up in consultation with the Tata Memorial Center.
