The state government of Maharashtra has been conducting coronavirus (COVID-19) vaccination drive efficiently across all district with an aim to curb the COVID-19 cases and ensure safety from the infection. Over the last few months, millions of citizens in Maharashtra have been vaccinated with either Covishield, Covaxin or Sputnik V

Data released by the state health department reveals that over 6.1 lakh vaccines were administered across Maharashtra until 8 pm on Friday, July 16, 2021.

So far, more than 3.47 crore people in the state have taken the first dose of vaccine and more than 88 lakh people have taken the second dose. With this, Maharashtra continues to hold the top position among all the Indian states administering COVID-19 vaccines. Furthermore, Maharashtra also has the highest number of citizens who have taken both the doses.

Meanwhile, the government is not able to continue the vaccination drive regularly as planned and this is due to the unavailability of vaccines. If more vaccines are administered in the state over the next few weeks, the number of citizens with both the doses could soon cross the 1 crore mark.

However, considering the efforts put so far, Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray and Health Minister Rajesh Tope have lauded the steps taken by the health department to ensure vaccination. Steps are being taken to expedite the same. In a recently announced decision, the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) also began vaccination for pregnant women in the city. Guidelines for the same were announced by the ministry and directives are being followed by the civic body. A total of 36 centres have been chosen to administer vaccines for pregnant women. However, only 10 pregnant women showed up on the first day of the drive.

On the other hand, the municipal corporation also began the drive-in vaccination centres in the city to ensure senior citizens don't face troubles during vaccination.

Officials have frequently warned about the rising COVID-19 cases in Maharashtra. With the newly identified Delta variant, the health department and respective civic bodies have taken necessary steps to control the spread of the virus. Experts have also warned about the possibility of a third COVID-19 wave which is likely to affect the children. Keeping this in mind, the government has been working closely with a team of paediatricians to set up necessary wards for the children.

CM has also appealed to the citizens to follow the norms of safety at all times. Wearning a mask, maintaining social distance and sanitising has been made mandatory to ensure safety and precaution.
