COVID-19: Mumbai Reports 20,971 New Cases, 6 Fatalities

On Friday, January 7, Mumbai reported 20,971 new COVID-19 cases from these, 17,616 which is 84 per cent were asymptomatic, depicted the data released by the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC), reported news agency ANI. Previously on Thursday, January 6, the island city reported 20,181 new COVID-19 cases along with four fatalities

Therefore, the city reported 790 additional new cases on Friday in contrast to Thursday. On Friday, 1,395 patients were hospitalized of which 88 were on oxygen. On the other hand, the percentage of beds occupied in Mumbai stands at 18.3 per cent.

Subsequently, 8,490 positive patients recovered and were thus discharged. With these updates in figures, the active number of cases in the city is 91,731. Six fatalities were also reported owing to coronavirus of which five had comorbidities. While four were male and two were female, one was below the age of 40, whilst five were over the age of 60. 

News agency ANI quoted the BMC remarking that Dharavi reported 150 new COVID-19 cases in the last 24 hours which takes the active cases to 558. 

With this, the recovery rate of Mumbai is at 87 per cent and the overall growth rate of cases from December 31 to January 6 is 1.23 per cent. Similarly, the doubling rate now stands at 56 days. 

In accordance with the containment measures taken on January 6, there are six active containment zones in the city and 123 active sealed buildings
