After Dharavi, the Worli Koliwada is now moving towards getting rid of coronavirus cases. In the last 10 days, no COVID-19 positive patient has been reported in the area.

With the outbreak of the coronavirus, the pandemic infiltrated the slums of Dharavi after which it moved towards Worli Koliwada which is densely populated as well. However, amidst the second wave of the coronavirus, the Koliwada became a hotspot of COVID-19 with the virus spreading faster than ever.

Mumbai’s civic body, the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) has been able to contain the spread of the coronavirus in both Dharavi and Worli Koliwada as a result of a house-to-house survey, implementation of containment zones, increased speed of tests and immediate quarantine of patients.

Moreover, the officials informed that there has been no new case in Worli Koliwada and Jijamata Nagar since June 7. So far, the areas have reported 1,099 cases and the densely populated enclaves have seen 70 deaths; 1,027 patients have recovered.

In 2020, when the COVID-19 cases increased in Mumbai, the BMC feared the spread in Worli Koliwada, and to implement a strict protocol, citizens from the area were instructed not to leave the locality for over two months, which eventually helped the administration, manage the crisis effectively.

On the other hand, earlier on June 21, only 50 per cent of vaccinations at the public centres would be through online appointments. Meanwhile, the rest of the inoculation can allow walk-ins. BMC’s additional commissioner Suresh Kakani said BMC has changed the routine as it was pointed out that there cannot be only walk-in or online days. Those wanting to take the first Covishield dose can take an online appointment or walk-in, he added.
