With an increase of cases in Maharashtra, CM Uddhav Thackeray took notice of the surge in COVID-19 cases in districts of western Maharashtra.

On Thursday, Thackeray speaking at a meeting held to review the coronavirus situation in Western Maharashtra, stated that the recent surge in cases of coronavirus in Satara, Sangli, and Kolhapur districts was a cause of concern further adding that the focus of authorities has now shifted from the Mumbai - Thane region to these places in Western Maharashtra. As of Thursday, Kolhapur had 23,827 cases of coronavirus whereas Satara and Sangli had over 16,000 cases each. Furthermore, the CM asked the administration to increase contact tracing in these areas and to trace high-risk contacts for every positive patient.

The Maharashtra Chief Minister further stated that even though there have been demands to reopen temples and other places of worship as part of the entire process of Unlocking, his government prefers exercising caution with regards to the pandemic.
