The Maharashtra government has been encouraging people to use cycles for travelling. This has gotten a boost from the non-profit organizations as relaxations begin in the state.

Citizens have been hesitating to use public transport. As a consequence, a lot of them have been out on the streets with their personal vehicles which have congested the roads. However, cycling is a single person activity and can further encourage social distancing amongst the people of Mumbai. The state government had earlier in its ‘Mission Begin Again’ had already spoken about adopting cycling in everyday lives as a form of physical exercise. This would boost one’s immunity and not cause additional traffic on the road.

In the past, Maharashtra had issued lockdown guidelines following the Centre's announcement of lockdown extension in the containment zones which would be valid till the end of June. In addition to the Centre's guidelines for reopening in phases, Maharashtra has imposed phase-wise reopening of activities in areas of MCGM (Mumbai), Municipal Corporations of Pune, Solapur, Aurangabad, Malegaon, Nashik, Dhule, Jalgaon, Akola, Amravati, and Nagpur. In the rest of the state, all activities are allowed except for the ones mentioned in the prohibited list.

As per the new guidelines, night curfew timings have been amended to 9:00 PM to 5 AM across the nation, except for essential services. Moreover, the MHA had stated that lockdown in containment zones will continue till June 30, allowing only essential activities and no movement of people in or out of it. The MHA has also ordered states to ensure that there is no restriction in the movement of goods and persons intra-state and inter-state. Movement of Shramik and passenger trains, domestic air travel, movement of stranded Indians abroad will continue as per SOPs. Maharashtra so far has 74,861 cases of coronavirus whereas Mumbai has 43,492 cases of the coronavirus.
