Coronavirus Pandemic: Lady from Ulhasnagar who tested positive attends a satsang with 1,500 people

On Thursday, a man from Kalyan had tested positive for COVID-19. It was later learnt that before testing positive, he had been to a wedding in Solapur. After learning this information, the Kalyan Dombivli Municipal Corporation was in a tizzy. Many people took to social media to criticise the moves of the man in question. However, it seems that people still are not taking this situation as seriously as they should. Almost every day there are news reports regarding cases of people running from hospitals after being told that they test positive. And then they are others who are stamped for home quarantine but they are found travelling in public transport and thus putting everyone they are travelling with at risk for catching this deadly disease. 

Another such incident took place yesterday. In this case, the Ulhasnagar Municipal Corporation learned that a 49-year-old woman from Ulhasnagar who was tested positive had attended a satsang (religious gathering) at a city-based ashram.

Following which, a special team has been asked to track all those who reportedly came in contact with the patient. Currently, the lady is admitted at Kasturba hospital in Mumbai.

As per the officials, her family members have been quarantined and five others who had travelled to Dubai with her, are undergoing check-up at Kasturba Hospital. It is being estimated that the woman had come in contact with over 1,500 people at this satsang on March 8.

The woman was diagnosed after she returned from her Dubai trip on March 4 and complained that she was feeling unwell. However, the lady then attended a satsang on March 8. Later, her condition worsened and she visited a private hospital on Wednesday. The hospital referred her to Kasturba Hospital.

The officials have shared the details of the woman and her travel history with the Ulhasnagar Municipal Corporation who have formed teams to sanitise her residence. Another 15-member team is tracing the people that came in contact with the woman in the past 15 days.

To dissuade people from running away, Maharashtra Home Minister Anil Deshmukh on Thursday announced that there will be strict legal police action against such people and also against those who are not following the recommendation to be in isolation.
