Eman Ahmed Abd El Aty who was flown in to Bombay’s Safe Hospital earlier this year for a bariatric surgery, has breathed her last in Abu Dhabi. Eman was suffering from underlying comorbid conditions including heart and kidney dysfunction at Burjeel Hospital.
Here’s her journey till now..
She had arrived in Mumbai on 11th February as the world’s heaviest woman and underwent several surgeries to bring down her weight from 500kgs to 250. Over time she eventually came down to 176 kgs.
A seven feet wide custom made bed and special cabin equipped with an Intensive Care Unit(ICU), two restrooms, an Operation Theatre and video conferencing, all costing over Rs. 2 crores was organized at Saifee Hospital. Dr. Mufazzal Lakdawala lead the team of bariatric surgeons from across the country. Her weight was not the only problem as she was bed ridden for over two decades and that led to several medical complications and it was high risk procedure to operate on her.
Eman had suffered from paralysis when she was 11 and that led to her being bed ridden and the worsening of her condition.
Her sister, Shaimaa Selim was involved in a dispute with the doctors who had even filed a police complaint against her for obstructing normal treatment of Eman. A few months ago Eman was flown to Abu Dhabi to be treated at the Burjeel Hospital with a team of nine doctors, nurses and paramedics.
