Days after the announcement of commencement of Mumbai Metro Lines 2A and 7, the Mumbai Metropolitan Regional Development Authority (MMDRA) has finalised the timetable for the lines, which will run from April 2.

The services will be thrown open for commuters in phases after the inauguration by the Maharashtra Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray.

According to reports, under the Phase 1 of project, 2A and 7 corridors will cover 20 kilometres distance. On Line 2A, trains will operate between Dhanukarwadi and Upper Dahisar. Additionally, they will run between Dahisar East and Aarey on Line 7.

Officials stated that a dry run on the two lines during which the empty Metro train was run on a trial basis according to the proposed timetable to ascertain the issues and rectify them before starting the operation.

The trains will run daily between 6 am to 10 pm on the this stretch with a frequency of 10-11 minutes. These trains have the capacity to carry over 3 lakh passengers every day.

There will be nine rakes operating over 150 trips every day.

Meanwhile, the MMRDA is constructing a 35-km stretch of two elevated metro corridors—Line 2A between Dahisar and D N Nagar and Line 7 between Dahisar (East) and Andheri East. These two new lines will run parallel on east and west side of suburb and are expected to decongest Western Express Highway (WEH), the major arterial road of Mumbai.

Once fully functional, commuters can travel between Dahisar and Ghatkopar without exiting the metro station as the two lines will be interconnected.

For those unversed, after nearly eight years, Mumbai received its first east-west Mumbai Metro corridor, it will attain the Metro 2A and Metro 7 Line that will become partially operational from Saturday, April 2.

Stations: Dahisar East, Upper Dahisar Station (Anand Nagar), Kandarpada (Rushi Sankul), Mandapeshwar (IC Colony), Eksar, Borivali West (Don Bosco), Pahadi Eksar (Shimpoli, then Shimpawali), Kandivali West (Mahavir Nagar), Dahanukarwadi (Kamraj Nagar), Valnai (Charkop), Malad West, Lower Malad (Kasturi Park), Pahadi Goregaon (Bangur Nagar), Goregaon West, Oshiwara (Adarsh Nagar), Lower Oshiwara (Shastri Nagar) and Andheri West (D.N. Nagar). 

Line: Metro 7

Stations: Dahisar East, Ovaripada, National Park, Devipada, Magathane, Poisar (formerly Mahindra & Mahindra), Akurli (formerly Bandongri), Kurar (formerly Pushpa Park), Dindoshi (formerly Pathanwadi), Aarey, Goregaon E (formerly Mahanand), Jogeshwari E (formerly JVLR Junction), Shankarwadi, Gundavali (formerly Andheri East).

Metro Fares:   

  • 0-3 kms: INR 10

  • 3-12 kms: INR 20
  •  
  • 12-18 kms: INR 30

  • 18-24 kms: INR 40

  • 24-30 kms: INR 50
