Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA) Commissioner SVS Srinivas was quoted in an account by the IANS on Monday, March 28 elaborating on how the two metro lines will be a driverless train operation named BTC.

This service, he said, will be thrown open by Maharashtra Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray. He further elucidated that after nearly eight years, Mumbai received its first east-west Mumbai Metro corridor, it will attain the Metro 2A and Metro 7 Line that will become partially operational from Saturday, April 2.

It has been reported that the stretch between Dahanukarwadi and Aarey on Metro Line 2A and Dahisar to D N Nagar on Metro Line 7 could become functional.

April 2 is considered to be an auspicious occasion in Maharashtra with the New Year, Gudi Padwa, happening to fall on that day.

Earlier, the Commissioner of Metro Railway Safety (CMRS) had found serious safety deficiencies on Line 7. However, the MMRDA claimed that the rectifications required have been completed by them.

Based on accounts, the metro lines will prove to be a boon for those residing in the northwestern suburbs. While the Metro 7 Line will have 29 stations when completed, the Metro 2A Line on the other hand will have 17 stations on its route. Initially, the trains will operate at a frequency of 15-20 minutes, however, once more rakes are added, the frequency is anticipated to increase.

Back in June 2014, Mumbai Metro One Blue Line 1, was inaugurated connecting Versova, Andheri and Ghatkopar. Moreover, almost 10 months ago, Thackeray and Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar and Balasaheb Thorat, Revenue Minister, flagged off the two lines trial runs.
