According to the latest reports, the 17-km Bandra-Versova Sea-Link (BVSL) is moving slowly since its construction commenced in 2019. It has been reported that the BVSL’s deadline has been changed to December 2026.

Part of the Mumbai Coastal Road Project, its previous time of completion was 2023. Allegations have been made that the slow pace of work done by the earlier contractors has resulted in the delay of the project.

Based on an account by the Hindustan Times, the Maharashtra State Road Development Corporation’s (MSRDC) officials highlighted that from 2018 when two firms were shortlisted for the construction till presently a mere 5 per cent of the activity has been finished.

The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) is building the coastal road through reclamation between Princess Street Flyover and Worli. From there, travellers can connect to the Worli-Bandra Sea-Link from there another sea link is being constructed between Bandra and Versova.

The construction of Coastal Road commenced in October 2018, this comes a month after two contractors were shortlisted for construction of Bandra-Versova Sea-Link.

In accordance with the narrative, after three years, while 50 per cent of civil works for the coastal road is completed, a mere 5 per cent of civil works for BVSL has been undertaken by the MSRDC.

MSRDC officials have been quoted in the report, elaborating on how in January 2022, they accorded permission to two contractors appointed previously to hand over the contract to two other firms. They added that considering the delay in the completion of BVSL, they have not made any cost escalation analysis.
