According to the latest reports, the Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA) is looking to connect the under-construction Mumbai Trans Harbour Link (MTHL) Road with the Mumbai-Pune Expressway. This is hoped to curtail the travel time between Mumbai and Pune.

Based on accounts, the authority is now looking for a consultant, who will curate a comprehensive project report of the same as well as decide on the appropriate linkage for the same. Officials have been quoted in reports elaborating on how a tender has been floated for the consultant’s appointment.

It has been reported, that officials claim about how it will assist travellers to directly commute to Pune from Worli which will save the travel time by more than an hour. It is being speculated that there are plans in the pipeline to link the MTHL to the National Highway 17 which will go towards Bangalore.

For those unversed, the MMRDA will be building the INR 18,000 crore MTHL scheme connecting Sewri on the Mumbai side to Chirle on the Navi Mumbai side by making a 21.8 km bridge over the sea. In accordance with narratives, presently, 65 per cent of the project’s work is finished and the remaining of the work is anticipated to be completed in 2023.
