Recently, the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation proclaimed that 58 per cent of the Mumbai Coastal Road Project (MCRP) was completed on Wednesday, July 20. The ambitious INR 12,000-crore project is the brainchild of former Maharashtra Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray, reports stated.

According to accounts, the 10.58-km road is being built from Priyadarshini Park to Worli Sea Link. The BMC started work on the mega project in 2018 and it is anticipated that it will be completed by November 2023. The civic authority claims that it has planned to reclaim 111 hectares of land for the MCRP. From this, 97 per cent which is 107 hectares have been reclaimed already.

Additional Commissioner of the BMC, Ashwini Bhide, took to Twitter to share the progress on the MCRP.

Based on narratives, 70 per cent of the work on the sea wall is also finished. Further, from the 175 monopiles to be built under the bridges, 40 per cent which is 70 have been made. The MCRP also entails the building of two 2.07-km tunnels. The tunnel from Priyadarshini Park to Netaji Subhash Marg is finished. The tunnelling work on the other side has been completed up to 39 per cent.

Narratives suggest that once the south phase of the MCRP is completed, Mumbai will get access to an 8.5 km long and 20-mt-wide sea promenade. In addition to this, it will have access to a biodiversity park, landscaping, a butterfly garden, cycle tracks, open-air theatres, toilets, seating arrangements for tourists and an underground parking lot.
