On Wednesday, the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) stated that a report received from the National Institute of Oceanography (NIO) mentions that a distance of 60 meters between the pillar is enough, which was proposed by them, reports stated.
According to accounts, the BMC elaborated on how the insurance cover will also be given for the next 20 years if any accident transpires owing to the collision of a boat with the pillars.
The Mumbai coastal road project has garnered stark criticism from the fisherfolk who have been demanding that the distance between the pillars be kept at 200 meters, narratives cite.

Based on reports, the civic body elaborated on how the state-of-the-art protective shields or fenders will be put around the pillars. Officials have elaborated on how the fenders are special equipment designed to offer boats a cushioning effect. This will come in handy if they face collisions with each other or the piers.
It has also been reported that the BMC will be installing CCTV cameras which will be directly connected to the control room to offer immediate assistance in case of an emergency.
The BMC could also offer interim compensation to affected fishermen, after assessing the project's impact, accounts mention.
While the project is anticipated to be completed by December 2023, 53 per cent of the project is claimed to be completed. In the BMC Budget 2022, INR 3,200 cr was allocated for the coastal road project.
