Several leaders from the Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) have taken an aggressive stance against CIDCO after they learned that the housing body has been selling homes at inflated rates to the police who are tirelessly doing their duty for the city of Mumbai.

Reports state that CIDCO has increased the price of houses by INR 3 lakhs, in comparison to the prices at which they were sold in 2018. Due to this change, these homes are no longer affordable to the police. Keeping this in mind, MNS has warned CIDCO of an intense agitation if the prices are not reduced.

CM Uddhav Thackeray recently appreciated the work done by the police during the coronavirus pandemic and while addressing the same had announced houses for the police in Navi Mumbai. Two years ago, CIDCO had announced a total of 15,000 houses, and at present, the body has a total of 4,600 houses remaining. Following this, Uddhav Thackeray, while addressing the department and officials on his birthday, announced that the houses would be handed over to the police. Accordingly, CIDCO conducted a housing lottery for the department, however, the relatives of the police have alleged that the houses are being sold for INR 2.5 to 3 lakhs

The houses are being given at Ghansoli, Kharghar, Taloja, Rasayani, and Dronagiri areas, in the housing project set up by CIDCO. Data stated that in 2018, the price of a house in the lowest income group was INR 18 to 18.5 lakhs. However, CIDCO has now increased the price of these houses from INR 20.1 to 21.6 lakhs.

Opposing the same, leaders from other parties have mentioned that instead of increasing the prices, the government should have provided affordable housing to these Corona warriors. A similar demand has been raised by the police officials too.
