The bhoomipujan of the BDD chawls redevelopment project is proposed to be held on Saturday, April 22 at the hands of chief minister Devendra Fadnavis. However, the project has got marred into controversy as general secretary of Akhil BDD Chawl Rahivasi Mahasangh and Congress spokesperson, Raju Waghmare, has alleged that corruption has taken place in the tendering process of this project. Waghmare has demanded an enquiry into the tendering process of this project.

The contracts for the redevelopment of BDD chawls in Naigaon and N.M. Joshi Road are being awarded to Shapurji Pallonji and L&T companies respectively. The MHADA had invited tenders from international companies but as no response was received the tendering process was given an extension. Meanwhile, the MHADA received two tenders and it offered one project each to these companies. Why another extension was not given to the tendering process as a big project like Dharavi was given five times extension, asked Waghmare.

The MHADA authorities have violated the rules in BDD redevelopment tendering process, he alleged.

Kiran Mane, general secretary of Akhil BDD Chawl Bhadekaru Hakka Sanrakshan Samiti, has alleged that the authorities have hastily awarded these contracts to the concerned companies without taking deposit amount from them.

Both Waghmare and Mane have stated that they will demand an enquiry against MHADA vice-chairman, other officers into this corruption case. Waghmare also said that he will lodge a police complaint against MHADA officials in this connection.

The MHADA officers could not be contacted as they were reported to be busy in tomorrow’s bhoomipujan programme.

Meanwhile, claiming it as cheating with them, many organisations of the BDD chawl residents have threatened to stage agitation against the government by showing black flags during the bhoomipujan programme.
