Mumbai – An important meeting of the Mumbai Metro Rail Corporation (MMRC) and the Save Aarey, an NGO, was held in the MMRC office on Tuesday. The MMRC has made it clear that it is not in support of shifting of the Metro car shed from Aarey Colony area. Hence, no solution was found in this meeting which was convened as per the direction of chief minister Devendra Fadnavis.

The local residents and environmentalists are strongly opposing the proposed metro car shed in Aarey Colony area. But the MMRC has taken a tough stand and hence it is locked in a fierce battle with the NGO, Save Aarey. A few days back, members of the said NGO had met CM Devendra Fadnavis to plead their case to him. Fadnavis had directed the concerned authorities to hold discussions with the NGO.

During Tuesday’s meeting, Save Aarey members appealed the MMRC officers to shift Metro-2 car shed at Kalina due to abundant availability of land there and there are no trees. But MMRC project director S K Gupta rejected their proposal stating that the Kalina land is not suitable for the proposed project. Save Aarey members insisted for the reason behind rejecting the Kalina land but they received no answers from MMRC officials, said Stalin Dayanand, member of Save Aarey.

He said that they will approach the CM to find a solution on this issue. When contacted, Gupta said that land at Kalina is being rejected but he refused to talk more on this issue.
