The Mumbai Traffic Police on Monday, May 9, announced that a section of Eastern Express Highway (EEH) will remain closed for 12 days for repair and maintenance works.

Owing to this, those commuters travelling on the eastern express highway (EEH) between Chheda Nagar-Thane and vice versa will not be able to use the flyover, that exists above the junction where the Jogeshwari Vikhroli link road (JVLR) merges with the EEH from May 13-24.

Approving the traffic block, the police said that this will slow down traffic a bit as all the vehicles will take the road instead.

The flyover is being overhauled especially its ball bearing and expansion joints as part of the routine maintenance works.

While the work on replacing ball bearings has already been achieved, the repairing and replacement of expansion joints will require traffic blocks and hence the closure, revealed Maharashtra State Road Development Corporation (MSRDC) chief engineer Shashikant Sontakke.

Apart from this, the Sion flyover will also remain closed for vehicular traffic every weekend till June 20 so the MSRDC can undertake repair work.

On other hand, the Mumbai division of Western Railways (WR) is planning to build a new railway bridge between Bandra and Khar railway stations to speed up the construction of the sixth railway line between Mumbai Central and Borivali. However, the construction work will start post-monsoon.
