Thane: Four months deadline for Rajiv Gandhi Medical College Hostel's Renovation

Chief Minister Eknath Shinde has given orders to the Thane Municipal Corporation regarding the improvement of the hostels of resident doctors. Resident doctors should be provided with the highest standard of facilities. Also, the Chief Minister said that a time-bound program should be planned and implemented immediately. 

For its planning, the TMC commissioner  Abhijit Bangar inspected all the three hostels in the resident doctor's hospital area on Monday. After inspecting the resident doctor's canteen, gymnasium, sports facilities, etc, a meeting was held.

A change is needed

At present 78 resident doctors are residing in the hostel's main building above the canteen and 28 resident doctors are staying in hostel no.08. Among them, the main building of the hostel needs major repairs. 

While renovating this hostel building, it should accommodate a total of 100 resident doctors. Also, necessary changes should be made for adequate sunlight, ventilation, common room, and gymnasium should be well designed, said Bangar.

Take resident doctors' opinion into consideration

The commissioner expressed displeasure about the present condition of the canteen. Lack of cleanliness in particular is not something to be ignored. Therefore, all these should be considered in the new design. The commissioner also clarified that the opinion of the resident doctors should be taken into consideration with regard to the requirement of a cafeteria or the mess.

The space in front and back of the hostel should be used for providing sports facilities to resident doctors. Facilities should be provided for study and recreation in the open space near the hostel. The commissioner also explained that those services should be connected with the canteen.

Temporary arrangement soon

To renovate the hostel building, a temporary arrangement should be made within one month for the resident doctors currently residing there. While making this arrangement, the resident doctors should be shifted in such a manner that the functioning of the hospital will not be affected. The commissioner ordered the additional commissioner to inspect the alternative site immediately.
