Thane traffic police have started repairing potholes on their own since officers were told not to wait for civic bodies to act. They have been given basic tools and materials. The goal is to reduce traffic jams and minor accidents caused by potholes.
This step comes during peak monsoon when road conditions worsen. Traffic congestion in Thane has become severe. The road repairs and metro construction have also made things worse.
Ghodbunder Road is among the most affected. The Mumbai-Nashik highway is also in bad shape. The Bhiwandi section has several potholes and regular traffic jams. Minor accidents keep happening in these areas.
This is despite claims from the Maharashtra State Road Development Corporation, Thane Municipal Corporation, and the public works department that most potholes were already fixed. To deal with the issue, traffic officers now carry tools to fix small potholes immediately.
As per reports, residents have welcomed the efforts of the traffic police. But they still want regular action from the city agencies. People say the authorities must act before things get worse.
As per sources, the Anand Nagar road is in bad shape. The signal area is full of potholes. Even after clearing, potholes often reappear. The monsoon has made it more urgent to act.
