Congress State Working President Arif Naseem Khan claimed that not 13 but 50 people were killed and more than 500 injured in the heatstroke incident during the Maharashtra Bhushan Award ceremony at Kharghar, while talking to reporters in Thane on Monday.

Stating that Shiv Sena spokesperson Naresh Mhaske is a partner in the company that gave the contract for this ceremony, he has alleged corruption in the work of the ceremony. He has demanded that a case of culpable homicide be registered before the judicial inquiry into the accident. Meanwhile, Naresh Mhaske has denied the allegations.

Working President Arif Naseem Khan held a press conference at Thane Congress Party office on Monday. If there is a country award, the program is held at Rashtrapati Bhavan and if there is a state award, at Governor Bhavan. But the state government took the program of Maharashtra Bhushan award ceremony in an open ground. As the infection of coronavirus is increasing, there were some guidelines from the central government. Accordingly, a curfew has been imposed in Thane, Navi Mumbai and other places. It was violated by the state government by taking this program. Khan alleged that the government made Appasaheb Dharmadhikari's followers stand in the sun for their own political gain.

The state government had awarded a contract of INR 14 crores for this ceremony. This contract has been given to Concept Company and this company has sub-contracted it to Light and Shade Company. He has also alleged that Shiv Sena spokesperson and former mayor Naresh Mhaske is a partner of this company. The civic body had not made arrangements for the citizens who came there. The company to which this work was given, they were negligent. Therefore, he has demanded that a case of culpable homicide should be registered instead of a judicial inquiry into the matter. He also demanded INR 25 lakh each for those who died in the incident, as well as a government job for one of their family members and INR 10 lakh for those admitted for treatment. Criticising Chief Minister Eknath Shinde he said CM did not go to comfort those who died in this incident.
