On Monday, Maharashtra Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray said that as many as 835 new cases of COVID-19 had been detected in the state in the last 36 hours. Maharashtra has been termed as the hotspot of the coronavirus pandemic with 4,422 cases being recorded as of April 20, 7:20 pm.

Taking the rise of the cases in the state, Thackeray cautioned the citizens and said that limited industrial activities have been allowed in certain areas of the state, but it should not be seen as an indication that the threat of coronavirus has receded in any way.

He further added that the stringent norms of the lockdown were being eased to 'restart the wheels of the economy'. Thackeray said that select industrial activities will be starting only in non-hotspot zones in terms of coronavirus cases.

While the rise in the number of cases is a matter of concern, the rise in the number of positive cases is being attributed to the number of tests conducted by the government. According to the data released by the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR), Maharashtra has conducted the most number of tests in the country.

As of Sunday, Maharashtra had conducted 72,023 tests and 66,673 of the test reports came negative. However, the state still has a long way to go in its fight against the pandemic.

Coming back to the Chief Minister's advisory, Thakeray also stated that the government is testing how they can resume industrial and business activities. He added that relaxation in lockdown has been introduced in orange and green zones to resume industrial activities.

Maharashtra, the financial capital of the country, is the worst-affected state in India and even after it fights back the pandemic over the course of time, the state is up for a challenge in terms of economic recovery.
