The ever embittering ties between Shiv Sena and BJP, currently ruling Maharashtra in an entente cordiale, have resulted in a historic decision today as Uddhav Thackeray’s Shiv Sena announced that they will fight 2019 Lok Sabha elections alone, discontinuing its alliance with ally party BJP.

On Monday, a meeting of senior Sena leaders was held at Thackeray’s ‘Matoshree’ bungalow in suburban Bandra today to discuss the internal polls. Following this session, Shiv Sena held internet polls to elect its party president and also other functionaries, on the occasion of Bal Thackeray’s 92nd birth anniversary, in a national executive meet at NSCI, Worli when the decision was finalised and passed unanimously, as Sanjay Raut had moved a resolution in this regard.

As there were no other nominations for the post besides Uddhav Thackeray, he got re-elected for the president’s post. The national executive committee and deputy leaders were elected from among 180 members of the national executive.

Yuva Sena Chief Aaditya Thackeray has been named as one of the members of Shiv Sena's National Executive.

Generally, both the parties, Shiv Sena and BJP, having the same vote bank and functioning on a similar ideology, had fought the 2014 Assembly Elections separately. However, both failed to reach the majority mark and hence came together to contest further elections.
