In the aftermath of Prime Minister Narendra Modi raising the issue of high fuel prices in states ruled by the opposition that hasn’t paid heed to the Union’s call to curtail Value Added Tax on fuel, Maharashtra Environment Minister, Aaditya Thackeray has lashed out, reports stated.

According to accounts, Thackeray mentioned that the state government is waiting for an INR 26,500 crore GST disbursement from the Union. He was quoted in narratives elaborating on how once the GST is received, the state can consider curtailing the VAT.

Earlier, on Wednesday, April 27, Maharashtra Chief Minister, Uddhav Thackeray said that the Centre owes INR 26,500 crore to the state. Thackeray reportedly elucidated that Maharashtra collects the highest GST of 15 per cent in India. Combining both direct taxes and GST, Maharashtra is the number one state in the country.

Similarly, accounts claim that if the Centre does not extend the GST compensation from July this year, Maharashtra will lose INR 30,000 crore yearly.

It has been reported that apart from this, Thackeray responded to BJP Leader Ashish Shelar’s comments on how there was an offer to form an alliance between Shiv Sena, BJP and NCP back in 2017.

However, the NCP didn’t agree to it, claims Shelar. The Shiv Sena leader to this mentioned that he wasn’t aware of any such offer and questioned the need to go into the past and fight. He elucidated that they should be looking forward to working for the people.
