Coronavirus Outbreak: After politicians, state government officers come forward to donate CM's relief fund

Collectively, all 65,000 officers working in the state government will contribute nearly ₹40 crores with their two days’ salary to the CM’s relief fund. Of the 1.11 lakh officers’ post in Maharashtra government, 35 per cent are vacant.

As the members of Parliament, legislative assembly and council from Shiv Sena and Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) come forward to contribute their one month salary to the government relief measures, nearly 65,000 Maharashtra government officers will donate their two days salary to the Chief Minister’s Relief Fund (CMRF) to combat the ongoing coronavirus crisis. 

The total number of cases for the coronavirus or COVID-19 in Maharashtra have hiked to 135 with five deaths. Maharashtra has become the worst-state in India after Kerala for the coronavirus Pandemic. 

Collectively, all 65,000 officers working in the state government will contribute nearly 40 crores with their two days’ salary to the CM’s relief fund. Of the 1.11 lakh officers’ post in Maharashtra government, 35 per cent are vacant. 

Maharashtra State Gazetted Officer’s Federation advisor GD Kulthe confirmed that the state government officers will be donating their two days pay to the CMRF. 

“Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray has geared up the state machinery to tackle coronavirus on a war-footing. Under such circumstances, officers too must contribute generously. Our contribution is not huge, but it will help the government tackle the situation to some extent,” Kulthe was quoted by TOI as saying. 

A senior bureaucrat said it was unfortunate that corporate houses, industrialists and celebrities had not come ahead to assist the government in helping those affected by COVID-19. 

Earlier, Maharashtra Governor Bhagat Singh Koshyari also decided to donate his one month salary to the CM’s relief fund in order to provide help for those affected by the coronavirus or COVID-19. The Maharashtra Governor announced the same in a press release which further stated that all officers and staff of Raj Bhavan will donate their one day salary to the CM’s relief fund to assist those tested positive for the coronavirus or COVID-19. 

Meanwhile, Bajaj Group pledged an amount of 100 crores that will be used to assist the government in improving the health infrastructure for those affected by COVID-19.
