After students recited a Christian prayer during the assembly in DY Patil School in Talegaon, near Pune Maharashtra, the principal of the school, Alexander Coates Reid, was allegedly assaulted by Bajrang Dal Members. The video of the incident has gone viral on social media.

In the video, members of the Hindutva group are seen chasing Alexander Coates Reid. They are also heard chanting slogans like, “Har Har Mahadev.”

An official from the school revealed that the principal was physically harassed by about 100 men who forced their way onto the school grounds. His clothes were ripped, and he was the target of malicious accusations. The representative added that during this upsetting and hard time, instructors and all students are standing in support of the principal.

Police stated that no complaint about this incident has been filed so far.

Police Inspector Ranjit Sawant of the Talegaon MIDC area said, “A mob of Hindutva supporters and a few parents attacked Reid and tore his clothes.”

He further explained, “Additionally, they asserted that each morning the pupils were required to sing a Christian prayer. Oh Lord is a frequent opening to prayers.”

According to Sawant, the parents claimed that it is a Bible verse. However, the prayer contains no references to the Bible or to conversion.

This awful event has highlighted the urgent need to address and stop such acts of violence and intolerance, as well as the current spike in attacks and open discrimination against Christians. Some action should be taken against the ones using violence and doing caste discrimination in the country.

Since Ram Navmi earlier this year, the state has witnessed several major communal riots in Sambhajinagar (Aurangabad), Malad Malvani in Mumbai, Shevgaon in Akola and Sangamner, Jalgaon.

Recently in Korba, Chhattisgarh, Bajrang Dal members assaulted a man on suspicion. They suspected that he might be storing or selling beef. Rajesh Mochi and his family were shocked to find the purported cow meat in their home after Bajrang Dal raised a fuss, according to local news source The Sootr. As the word circulated, the Bajrang Dal members sparked a major commotion and attacked Rajesh's wife and son physically. They also told the police about the purported cow meat's discovery. The police got involved and have since filed a complaint, suggesting they want to look into it.

Recently, Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) chief Sharad Pawar alleged that the government led by Chief Minister Eknath Shinde is "creating unrest between communities" in the Maharashtra. "Communal riots have been engineered in areas where the BJP is weak so as to derive political mileage. If law and order is poor, the state will have to pay a price," exclaimed Pawar.

For communal violence in the state, opposition is blaming police and intelligence department. They also alleged that ruling party is deliberately heating up the atmosphere in the background of elections to be held next year.
