On Monday, Shiv Sena MP, Sanjay Raut stated that the state government is standing up for the rights of the farmers in India and the bandh brought into force on Monday has been done to voice their discontent against the atrocities committed against the farmers, highlighted reports.

The Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) government in the state that comprises Shiv Sena, Congress and NCP had called the bandh to stand together with the farmers in Uttar Pradesh.

According to reports, Raut interacted with the media outside his home in the island city wherein he elaborated that the bandh on October 11 is to protest the incident in Lakhimpur Kheri wherein innocent farmers lost their lives at the hands of those who have political power.

Based on accounts, Raut claimed that the bandh has received a good response from people through the state with the farmers from India looking at the state which has always stood up for their rights. He added that the ill-treatment received by farmers isn’t a secret with them protesting outside Delhi for several months now. He believes that rather than listening to the farmers, those in power have attempted to cause atrocities to them, with farmers being physically hurt in the BJP ruled state, Haryana. He added that now people have seen the brutality the farmers faced in another BJP ruled state of Uttar Pradesh.

On being questioned about the reports of stone pelting in Maharashtra he said that during demonstrations like these, certain untoward occurrences such as these occur which has been a phenomenon throughout the world.

BEST’s bus services were affected after reports of vandalization on some. Narratives also cite that when questioned about the BJPs traders association protest and the threatening of some leaders to not adhere to the bandh, Raut is claimed to have dared them to come to streets and declare their stand and warned of ramifications if anyone attempted to counter the bandh. He added that from what they have seen, the bandh is a success and the state has given a clear message that atrocities against the farmers won’t be accepted.
