On Monday, former state chief minister Devendra Fadnavis whose BJP has opposed the Maharashtra Bandh called by the MVA government alleged that whilst traders, as well as businessmen, were not in favour of the bandh they were threatened into participating in it. According to reports during his interaction with the media, he stated that the bandh sponsored by the state has been brought into force with the help of the administration and the government is misusing the police force to impose the bandh.

Fadnavis went on to describe the MVA government as an imposter, whilst remembering the occurrence of the police firing on farmers protesting in Maval in Pune on August 11 when NCP and Congress were the ruling government in the state. He also mentioned the latest lathi charge by the police on farmers in Rajasthan at Hanumangarh, which is also a state ruled by Congress.

He elaborated that the government is against farmers and the cultivators have understood this. He called the ruling party in the state to first offer relief to those farmers who suffered financial losses owing to the recent flooding in Maharashtra’s Marathwada and Vidarbha.

The MVA government called for a Maharashtra Bandh on October 11, to protest the occurrence of the killing of farmer’s in Uttar Pradesh’s Lakhimpur Kheri.
