The ruling party, which is a coalition government comprising Shiv Sena, NCP and Congress, in Maharashtra has called for a state-wide bandh on October 11 to protest against the killing of farmers in Lakhimpur Kheri in Uttar Pradesh.
Shiv Sena Rajya Sabha member Sanjay Raut said that his party would join the Maharashtra Bandh on October 11 to protest against the killing of farmers in Lakhimpur Kheri in Uttar Pradesh.
Speaking at a press conference along with NCP spokesperson Nawab Malik and Congress spokesperson Sachin Sawant, Raut said that the people need to be sensitized against the central government's anti-farmer policies. Farmers are not alone in this struggle and the process of showing solidarity with them should start from Maharashtra.
Nawab Malik said, “We appeal to the people to come together. You should stop your work for a day. Shopkeepers should keep their shops closed. Workers from all three parties will appeal to shops, establishments and the people to show their support for the farmers.”
Malik further said that the bandh will be enforced from midnight on Sunday. “We appeal to all workers not to create any problems for essential services like hospital, ambulance, medical story, milk supply during the shutdown,” he said.
