National Film Award is considered as the prestigious film award in the country. Among these awards, one award was given in the name of Indira Gandhi and one award was given in the name of Nargis Dutt. However, the category of awards has been changed and the names of Indira Gandhi and Nargis Dutt have been excluded from this category. 


The Ministry of Information and Broadcasting has changed the rules for the 70th National Film Awards 2022 for the National Film Awards. Among these changes, the amount of awards has been increased. So the categories have been changed. The committee appointed by the Modi government had discussed this during the Corona period and this decision has been taken unanimously.


Why are the names omitted? The reason for this is not clear

As per the changes made by the government-appointed committee, the Indira Gandhi Award for Best Debut Film is now mentioned as the best debut film for the director only. Nargis Dutt Award for Best Feature Film on National Integration has been renamed as Best Feature Film Promoting National, Social and Environmental. These films which convey the message of national, social value and environmental conservation will be merged in these categories. The director will be honoured with a Golden Lotus and INR 3 lakh. No explanation has emerged as to the exact reason behind the omission of the names of Indira Gandhi and Nargis Dutt.

Who are the members of the committee?

Neerja Shekhar, Additional Secretary of the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, chaired the committee appointed by the Central Government Ministry of Information and Broadcasting. So, producers Priyadarshan, Vipul Shah, CBFC chief Prasoon Joshi, cinematographer S. Nallamuthu and Prithul Kumar, joint secretary of the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, were included, as per the reports by India Today.


Increase in prize money

The cash amount for the Dadasaheb Phalke Award has been increased from INR 10 lakhs to INR 15 lakhs. Apart from this, the prize money for the Golden Lotus Awards in various categories has been increased to INR 3 lakh and INR 2 lakh for the Silver Lotus winners. Earlier, the amount of awards varied according to different categories.
