Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis on Friday passed a confidence motion, declaring a full majority in the assembly, as a reply to the opposition.

For the last few days, the opposition had discussed to carry out a no-confidence motion against the state government in the assembly. However, before the opposition could initiate the no-trust proposal, the CM moved a confidence motion with the support of Shiv Sena.

Shiv Sena leader Eknath Shinde also approved the confidence motion and it was passed in the assembly in a voice vote. Earlier, the opposition parties gave notice of no-trust against speaker Haribhau Bagde. However, it was never initiated as CM Fadnavis endorsed the speaker after moving the confidence motion.

The opposition has expressed its disappointment over this issue and said that there should have been a discussion before the vote. “The government moved the confidence motion without discussion and with a voice vote, which is wrong,” the opposition said.

MLA Ajit Pawar said that the speaker was absent until morning and the ruling government tried to suppress the opposition’s voice, which is democratically wrong.
