The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has attacked senior Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) leader over his claim that the BJP government in Uttar Pradesh was creating hurdles to accept their migrant workers and labourers who have been stranded in Maharashtra since the lockdown began.

Former Maharashtra Education Minister and senior BJP leader, Vinod Tawde said that no state trusts medical screening which is being done by the state government after the Nanded incident while adding that the UP government was not denying to take back migrants.

Punjab recorded a spike in its COVID-19 tally which has gone up to 1,232 after receiving nearly 4,100 pilgrims from Nanded. Of these, 795 were tested positive for the coronavirus or COVID-19 while the test reports of about 1,800 of the pilgrims were still awaited.

Meanwhile, Maharashtra Minority Affairs Minister Nawab Malik has alleged that the BJP-led Uttar Pradesh government is creating hurdles in accepting the migrant workers and labourers who are stranded in Mumbai and other parts of the state amid the coronavirus lockdown.

The Yogi government is laying down precondition saying that the migrants should be tested for COVID-19 by the Maharashtra government, Malik while adding that it would take more than one year to test 25-30 lakh migrants who are from Uttar Pradesh.

Earlier, the Maharashtra government sent nearly 4,100 pilgrims to Punjab who were stranded in Nanded. As per the guidelines, the pilgrims were tested with the thermal machines and went under medical screenings.

“The UP government is not at all reluctant to take back migrant workers stranded here. However, the fact is no state trusts medical screening being done by Maharashtra after the Nanded incident. Punjab being a Congress is also reluctant,” said Vinod Tawde.
