The political party, Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has reportedly sought answers from the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) and Shiv Sena regarding the delay in submitting an undertaking to the central ministry for environment, forests and climate change that no residential or commercial construction will be permitted along the coastal road, stated reports.

It seeks to know why the plan to prevent unauthorized constructions through the coastal road hasn't been made and given to the union. Apart from this, they are also questioning the plan for the resettlement and rehabilitation of the fishing community.

On Tuesday, December 7, Ashish Shelar addressed a press conference wherein he remarked that the report only highlights what the Comptroller and Auditor General (CAG) mentioned in its report on the coastal road project.

According to reports, Shelar elaborated that the locals need to know why the reclamation is undertaken in the absence of experts, traffic analysis, whilst also questioning a "flawed" Detailed Project Report that was mentioned by the CAG.

While making these remarks he cited that the BJP wasn't against the project but was bringing to light the irregularities done by the body in the name of public interest.

Shelar added that the problem of INR 1600 being paid in excess to the consultants as well as contractors have been raised. Further mentioning that the CAG report bore their complaints.

Based on accounts, the CAG report states that the civic authority isn't entitled to construct tunnels for the coastal road, claimed Shelar. He mentioned that because these questions asked regard the environment, the state environment must answer them.
