BJP MLA from Andheri Ameet Satam has written a letter to the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) Commissioner Iqbal Singh Chahal urging him to give free vaccination to all Mumbaikars in the age group of 18 to 45 years with an orange ration card.

This comes as the coronavirus cases in the city and state have been witnessed a huge spike.

Giving more information in this regard, Ameet Satam said that from May 1, the central government has given permission to vaccinate citizens in the age group of 18 to 45. According to him, citizens of this age group will also be able to get coronavirus vaccine in private hospitals. Therefore, I request the Commissioner of Mumbai Municipal Corporation to vaccinate the orange ration cardholders in this age group (both doses) from the funds of the Municipal Corporation.

“It will cost around INR 1,000 crores. Mumbai Municipal Corporation has an FD of INR 60,000 crore. Over the last year, the municipal corporation has spent thousands of crores of rupees on COVID-19 and the complete lockdown or restrictions have put a financial strain on many. Hence, I have demanded that the Municipal Corporation should take the initiative to get everyone out of the crisis as soon as possible and get everything back to normal,” said Ameet Satam.

Meanwhile, state Tourism Minister and Mumbai Suburban Guardian Minister Aaditya Thackeray suggested that vaccination centres be set up in 227 wards in Mumbai, while also expressing the need to speed up corona vaccination.

At present, there are 73 private, 39 municipal and 17 state government hospitals in Mumbai. BMC has given both doses of vaccine to about 2.76 lakh people, which is only seven per cent whereas, 17.66 lakh people have been given the first dose of vaccine so far.
