BJP MLA Ram Kadam, on Thursday, November 5, met Maharashtra Governor Bhagat Singh Koshyari and demanded immediate suspension and interrogation of the nine policemen who allegedly assaulted Republic TV's Editor-in-Chief Arnab Goswami.

Arnab was arrested by Alibaug police on Wednesday, November 4, 2020, in connection with Anvay Naik suicide case; and had alleged that he was beaten by the police during the arrest.

Following this demand, Kadam met the Governor and had earlier written a letter to Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray in this regard, in which he said that some officials from Raigad Police violated the rules, abused Arnab and hit him while arresting him from his Mumbai residence. He said while the state respects the police force and the khaki uniform, the country will not tolerate such mistreatment under the pressure of the Maharashtra government. Keeping this in mind, Kadam has demanded that the policemen who beat him should be suspended and an inquiry should be ordered.

Adding more, Kadam said that journalism is the fourth pillar of democracy and Maharashtra Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray along with Home Minister Anil Deshmukh disrespected the field. They have put Maharashtra into an undeclared state of emergency, and the officials should immediately release Arnab and apologize to the country.

Meanwhile, the Alibaug District Magistrate's Court has ordered Republic TV editor-in-chief Arnab Goswami, Feroz Sheikh and Nitesh Sarda to be in remaind for 14 days and have been accused in connection with the Anvay Naik suicide case. Arnab has requested the court to take legal action against nine officers of the Mumbai Police Force.
