After a seven-hour meeting of the Congress working committee on Monday, it was decided that Sonia Gandhi will serve as the interim President until the new chief is elected in the next session of the All India Congress Committee (AICC). This comes after 23 senior Congress leaders wrote a letter to party president Sonia Gandhi demanding the restructuring of party's leadership.
