On Thursday, Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis directed the Slum Rehabilitation Authority (SRA) officials to vacate a piece of land at Jogeshwari reserved for the Meghwadi police station and police personnel residence, and also demanding that all the slums on the land to be rehabilitated somewhere else.

The request was initiated by State Minister Ravindra Waikar through a written letter to the CM.

The State Minister personally met the CM at Nagpur’s Ramgiri Government House and handed him the letter. The letter stated that the population at Jogeshwari was increasing and the government did not have its police station in place. The land reserved for the police station was being used by people to set up slums and due to which, they needed to be moved to construct the police station.

Waikar stated that the area has been reserved for the construction of a Police station and Police Quarters for the last 10 years and the provision of funds had also been made. So he demanded that the CM should direct the officers accordingly to start the construction of the police station and police residence colony immediately. On the other hand, Waikar demanded that slum dwellers should be given houses under SRA’s project-based scheme.

In response, the Chief Minister has directed the concerned department to take immediate action.
