The state government is planning to fill 72,000 posts via jumbo employment opportunities. Of these, 16 per cent will be kept reserved for people from the Maratha community, confirmed Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis at the Maharashtra Assembly Monsoon Session. He said that once the Bombay High Court (HC) gives an order on the petition filed regarding Maratha reservation, the state will start acting on the same.
Fadnavis was replying to MLA Vinayak Mete, who had raised the question about reservation.
The state government has passed the bill wherein Maratha community will get 16 per cent reservation in jobs and education, both in Vidhan Sabha and Vidhan Parishad. However, the High Court (HC) has put a stay order.
The demand of the Maratha community for reservation in jobs and colleges has been referred to the backward classes commission, that will carry out a study to see the feasibility of the demand. The commission has been working on the demand and soon the report will be submitted to the state government. CM Fadnavis added that the Maratha reservation comes under the ambit of the HC and not the state government.
The state government has announced a job fair on a large scale. We didn’t want the Maratha community to lose this opportunity, hence, we demanded the state to reserve 16 per cent seats.
