After Mumbai police “relocated” the protesters from Gateway of India earlier, the students and youth on Wednesday gathered at Carter Road for the first time to protest against the assault on the students of Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU).

During the protest, the students raised placards in solidarity with the students who were attacked by masked men in JNU while condemning police brutalities in Aligarh Muslim University (AMU) and Jamia Milia Islamia (JMI).

Moreover, the young protesters also criticised the central government for the ‘chaotic’ conditions in Assam and Kashmir. Children also participated in the protest holding placards and postcards.

In the protest organised by law students at Carter Road, thousands of protestors sat silently while voicing dissent through placards and raised a few slogans registering their opposition against Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA) and National Register of Citizens (NRC).

In a symbolic gesture, a few protestors had covered their mouth given the attacks on students while stating that the government is trying to silence their voice.

Since it is a silent protest, we decided to cover our mouths. The government is not listening to our voices,” said a protestor.

Speaking about the ongoing situation of the country, Professor Al-Nasser Zakaria said that the students and educated won’t keep quiet now “because enough is enough.”

For the past six years, our nation is regressing instead of moving forward. This is because of two people in Delhi – Shah and Tanashah (Dictator). What is happening in the country is wrong. Students, educated and commoners will not keep quiet now because enough is enough,” Prof. Zakaria who is a resident of Bandra asserted.

All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM) spokesperson Waris Pathan also joined the protestors and read the preamble of the Indian constitution.

Pathan expressed that the students who have gathered here at Carter Road are the “real” patriotic and nationalists as they have come to save the constitution of their country.
