After the death of more than 30 patients in Nanded hospital, the Maharashtra Chief Minister Eknath Shinde on Thursday, October 5, reviewed the health system in the state in a virtual conference.

He further stated that a state level committee has been set up in order to investigate into the deaths at government hospitals at Nanded and Chhatrapati Sambhaji Nagar.

During the review meet, Shinde directed all the district collectors to immediately visit all the government health establishments, such as medical colleges, government hospitals, hospitals under civic bodies and primary health care centres, and file a report on current ground-level condition and facilities of each district.

He also asked the officials to form a schedule for regular visits to all these institutions.

In a video conference with all the district collectors from Delhi, Shinde said that the state government has set up a committee to probe the recent deaths in government hospitals in Nanded and Aurangabad and strict action will be taken against those responsible, said an official statement.

Divisional Commissioner, District collectors, Deans of the hospitals and the District surgeons should work as a team to act on health related issues. Demands for necessary funds and additional equipment should be immediately met with, Shinde said.

Shinde said health is a top priority for the government and stressed that efforts are being taken to strengthen health infrastructure in the short- and long-term and there won't be any shortage of funds for it. In case of a shortage of manpower, it can be outsourced at the district level, added the statement.

“The issues related to health services are of prime concern and the state government has initiated work on drafting short term and long term plans for strengthening the system. It shall be ensured that the funds won't be a problem in implementation of these plans,” the CM added.

He also urged that even the district collectors have been given authority to clear purchases of medicines to gear up the process of procurement of medicines.
