Mumbai – Chief minister Devendra Fadnavis on Saturday underlined the role of BJP in the BMC. Fadnavis also announced the plans to appoint a Uplokayukt for Mumbai and a three-member committee to monitor transparency in the civic bodies across the state. With these announcement, people have now started asking a question whether Fadnavis is the chief minister of the state or of the BJP only.

Fadnavis announced that the BJP will not be contesting the mayoral election for the BMC as well as not participate in any other civic body election. He also said that his party would not sit on the opposition benches. He also announced the formation of a three-member committee consisting of Ramanath Jha, Gautam Chatterjee and Sharad Kale to monitor transparency in the civic bodies across the state. This committee will study all the aspects of civic decisions and will recommend transparent functioning of the said body, he added.

Originally, Ramanath Jha was given the responsibility to make a development plan for the BMC while Gautam Chatterjee is member of a monitoring committee for the development plan. The BJP government had made him the member of this committee. By giving the responsibility of transparency to these two bureaucrats, the BJP has shown that they belong to the party.

By announcing his plan to appoint a deputy Lokayukta specifically for the BMC, the CM has tried to keep control on the BMC. Both these decisions are of the government but they are being announced by a BJP leader. This clearly indicates towards a question whether the CM is of the state or of the BJP.
