As CM Uddhav Thackeray visits the rain-affected Solapur district to take stock of the damage due to the unseasonal rains, he slammed Leader of Opposition, Devendra Fadnavis for politicizing the situation.

BJP leader Devendra Fadnavis had earlier castigated Thackeray over the response to the torrential rains in the state. Alleging that the CM was not taking things seriously, he lamented that immediate assistance had not been declared. According to the former CM, Thackeray and other Ministers had stepped out of their homes only after he announced his visit to the rain-affected areas. Moreover, Fadnavis had also criticized Thackeray for demanding financial aid from the Centre in view of the unprecedented situation.

Meanwhile, talking to the farmers, Thackeray assured that the government is everyone’s adding that financial assistance checks would also be given to some farmers on a representative basis. Furthermore, Thackeray urged everyone to remain vigilant, stating that the warning of danger still persists.

The torrential downpour in districts of Central and Western Maharashtra has resulted in floods, landslides and severe water-logging in many low-lying areas. While at least 48 people have lost their lives, over 7 lakh hectares of crops such as cotton, sugarcane, pomegranate etc. have been damaged. During the visit to Solapur, the CM Thackeray assessed the situation and handed over cheques for relief aid to some of the affected families. On the other hand, Fadnavis covered parts of Pune, Solapur and Osmanabad districts to assess the damage caused due to the heavy rainfall. Meanwhile, NCP supremo Sharad Pawar visited Osmanabad to inspect the affected areas and interacted with the farmers in a bid to redress their grievances.
