CM Uddhav Thackeray urges sugar industry to follow Brazil’s dual model production

Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray urged the sugar industry to adopt Brazil’s dual model of producing sugar as well as ethanol depending on the demand of the market. He also expressed his wish to expand the centres of Vasantdada Sugar Institute (VSI), Pune, all over the country and globally too.

He was addressing the 44th annual general body meeting of the Vasantdada Sugar Institute, Manjari in Pune. The 44th Annual General Meeting of VSI was held online on Saturday, January 9, under the chairmanship of Chief Minister Thackeray and in the presence of senior leaders and president of the organization Sharad Pawar and Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar.

Sugar mills in Brazil use technology that helps them to produce sugar as well as ethanol depending on the global market needs.

While speaking at the online meeting, Thackeray said, the sugar industry is facing financial problems due to excess sugar production and adopting Brazilian model would help in addressing the issue. This can help mills to produce sugar as per the market need maintaining demand-supply scenario. The mills can shift to ethanol and sugar production the ethanol production that would help them earn more and reduce the financial burden of the mills.

He also stated that the VSI should set up centres across the state and focus regional level research related to sugarcane.

Expressing his desire to get detailed information about the research done by inspecting this institute, Chief Minister Thackeray said that this organization has proved that we can make progress by adding science to agriculture. This organization, which is experimenting in the field of the sugarcane industry, needs to expand worldwide. He appealed that we should use the experience of Sharad Pawar, who is rich in experience and vision, for development.
