Maharashtra Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray has urged the Uttar Pradesh government to allot land for the construction of Maharashtra Bhavan in Ayodhya.

The Maharashtra Bhavan will be built for the devotees who will visit Ayodhya from Maharashtra to seek blessings of Lord Rama. Shiv Sena chief Uddhav Thackeray also announced the donation of ₹1 crore from his party for the Ram Temple Trust.

Uddhav Thackeray visited Ayodhya last weekend after completing 100 days in power and “to seek blessings”. After assuming office on November 28, Shiv Sena had stated that Uddhav Thackeray will visit Ayodhya after being 100 days in power.

During his visit, Thackeray was accompanied by his wife and ‘Saamana’ editor Rashmi Thackeray, Aaditya Thackeray among other leaders and party workers from Shiv Sena. Maharashtra Animal Husbandry Minister and Congress MLA, Sunil Kedar also joined Uddhav Thackeray at Ayodhya to offer prayers at Ram Lalla temple.

Thackeray visited Ayodhya by road from Lucknow and during his visit, the Hindu Mahasabha President was put under house arrest to stop the latter from protesting against the Maharashtra Chief Minister.

Several saffron elements believe that CM Thackeray’s coalition with Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) and Congress is a “betrayal of the Hindu cause”.

While talking to the media during his visit, CM Thackeray said that he had distanced Shiv Sena from the BJP but not from Hindutva.

“BJP doesn’t mean Hindutva, both are different things. I ended relations with BJP but not Hindutva,” said Thackeray.

Earlier, Shiv Sena broke the 35-year-old alliance with the BJP and formed an alternative government with the NCP and Congress in Maharashtra. After the Maharashtra assembly poll results, the Shiv Sena and BJP clashed over the Chief Ministerial post.

This is the first time Uddhav Thackeray has visited Ayodhya after becoming the Maharashtra Chief Minister. Earlier, Uddhav Thackeray had put off his visit to Ayodhya scheduled on November 24, 2019. The Shiv Sena chief had visited Ayodhya in June 2019 and had offered prayers at the Ram temple site along with 18 newly elected MPs of his party.
